Lianyuan Iron&Steel Group Co., Ltd., Hunan Valin Lianyuan Iron&Steel Co., Ltd., and Hunan Valin Thin Sheet Co., Ltd. (hereinafter jointly referred to as LY Steel) are located in Loudi City, the center of Hunan Province, where Xiangqian (Hunan-Guizhou) and Luozhan (Henan-Guangdong) railways, Shangrui (Shanghai-Ruili) and Taiao (Taiyuan-Marco) expressways intersect. Since the establishment in 1958, LY Steel has been keeping constant development. During the “10thFive-year” period, the company carried out large scale technical modernization to build the 2 million tons Ultra-thin Sheet Project as well as its supporting projects. Its annual production capacity exceeds 4.5 million tons and the total assets reach over 19 billion yuan. The significant transform from section and bar to high-tech and highly value-added ultra-thin sheet and strip as majority in product mix has been realized.

   LY Steel has ranked in top 500 industrial enterprises nationwide for consecutive years. The company has been awarded the “Top Credit Enterprise” and the “National First-class Measurement Enterprise” and won the “National Quality Management Prize”, leading it to be the first enterprise in Hunan Province and the fourth one in National Steel Industry granted such honor. LY Steel has obtained the certificates of ISO9000:2000 Quality Management System, Measurement Management System, ISO14001 Environment Management System and the Occupation Health and Safety Management System. The hot rolled rebar with “Shuangling” trademark was awarded the State Silver Medal (the highest prize) 3 times consecutively and the National Golden Cup for high quality metallurgical products 3 times. It was granted the title of “National Inspection-free Products”. The ¢ó rebar was awarded the National Golden Cup for high quality metallurgical products in 2003. Moreover, the trademark “Shuangling” has been listed among “Ten Publicly Recognized Trademarks in China” and further conferred as “Chinese Well-known Trade Mark” by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce in 2006.

    Currently LY Steel gets equipped with 6 blast furnaces (incl. one of 2200m3 level) and one 60t-converter and three 100t-converters, of which the former has the total effective volume 4086 m³ and can annually produce more than 4.2 million tons of pig iron, and the latter can contribute 4.5 million tons of steel. One of the converters had the first campaign of 20000 heats, creating a world record. The steel rolling system consists of one hot rolling line, one cold rolling line of worldwide advanced level, four bar, section and narrow strip production lines with the rolling capacity over 4.8 million tons per year. The rebar products are widely used in the Three Gorges Project, the Yellow River Xiaolangdi Hydropower Station, Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed Railway and other national key construction projects. The hot-rolled and cold-rolled products are selected by many domestic famous companies such as CIMC (China International Marine Containers Co., Ltd.), Galanz, Panpan Security Door and Tongxin Industrial, and overseas customers as well. The company exported 390 thousand tons of steel products and earned 220 million USD in 2007.

    In recent years, LY Steel has developed cyclic economy vigorously and drew attention to both energy saving scientifically and optimization of energy use, so as to build a “Cleanly LY Steel”, improving the environment quality and efficiently utilizing energy. The company keeps operating ISO14001 environmental management system constantly and effectively, and sticks to the implementation of “three simultaneity” for the new construction, expansion and transformation projects (Installations for the prevention and control of pollution at a new construction, expansion or technical transformation project shall be designed, built and commissioned together with the principal part of the project.). LY Steel takes the control of fume and dust in iron making system and the comprehensive utilization of sludge, waste slag and waste water as the core, accelerates the close down of backward production facilities and promotes the upgrade of energy saving technology and equipment, gives the full play of the cyclic economy projects under operation and one hundred million yuan of benefit has been realized. The energy consumption per unit GDP in 2007 was 0.07t SCE/ten thousand yuan lower than that in 2006, which means a total 84.3tSCE is saved and the energy consumption per ten thousand yuan of production value is reduced by 3.3%.
